Alright! So i was at the UNICEF Voice Of Youth forum and one of the topics were on Prostitution. One person was saying if prostitution should be legalized and i was like "WHAT?"

I mean, like, do you even need to asked if prostitution should be legalized? The answer is straight NO! Well, at least, that's what i think. Some were saying that it should be legalized so that people can have more "jobs" and stuff like that -- [ I seriously hope that the person was drunk or something, when he/she made that statement. lol] Yeah, sure. We'll definately need more doctors too! Why? More stds, more diseases and more patients. Thus, more doctors! -- hmm, maybe i should be a doctor!

And another person also said that by legalizing prostitution the rape cases will decrease. Well, i say "FOR SURE!! But wait, come to think about it, i don't think rape cases will decrease. I'm sure you'll have perverts prowling around every corner even if prostitution is legal. And we will have more murder cases too! Why, you asked? Well, you'll need money to get a prostitute, don't you? -- [I'm sure they are not FOC.] So, where are you going to get the money if you're poor? You're going to snatch, rob, kill and do whatever neccessary to get what you need. And trust me, people are already doing that even without legalizing prostitution.

Alright, so lets see what will happen IF prostitution is legalized?
  1. You'll have an increasing number of girls [ uhh and guys? -- lol ] hanging around the sidewalk trying to seduce men that walk passed them. oh and by then, you won't be able to tell who's the prostitute and who's not.
  2. cause people to be more lustful..
  3. wife will probably get "fired" from their jobs because their husbands can easily find a replacement. -- lol and vice versa.
Alright, so that's about it. Interesting post i must say. what do you think? Should prostitution be legalized?

ps: Dab, i know its legal in Australia :)

Well, the legalisation issue is always a hot topic when discussed.

I think it only became legal recently in Australia. It hasnt' seen a decrease (nor an increase) in rape and murder (as far as I know), because the cause of both those crimes aren't linked to Prostitution.

In Australia, you have to work form a brothel, and you have to be registed as a business. [So that the GOvernment can get their share of tax from the prostitute.]

The whole 'idea' of legalising it, is that:

    1. The Government get money (otherwise the prostitutes just keep it all in their pockets)

    2. It's been impossible to stamp it out in most countries of the world anyway ... so, rather than fight it, the Government decides to regulate it.

    3. Making it legal means the Government can put restrictions and tighter controls on it, so they can ensure that health checks are done (such as in Australia, brothel workers need health checks done monthly), the workers can work in a safe environment (ie, they have to work in a brothel and the brothel comes equiped with security and body guards), the security also makes it safer for clients as well.

    There are probably more reasons.

I've heard some people say the industry should regulate itself, but that's stupid. That's just asking organised crime to move in a take it over.

But, there are still 'illegal' ways to be prostitutes in Australia. If the worked doesn't register as a business, then she (or he) is breaking the law. I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to work off the street either. You have to work in a registered brothel.

So, legalising it will depend on HOW they do it.

Most of all, they have to think about several factors.
    1. Safety of the workers.
    2. Safety of the clients
    3. Morality issues (like you can't have a brothel in a family neighbourhood. In Sydney, I think they're mainly at Kings Cross or in Industrial areas)

Was interesting, as I remember the outcry in Melbourne once where a Church was sold to become a Brothel.

Anyway, won't affect me. Never needed a prostitute.
